Hey, beloveds.

I’m Bethany Nicole — a writer, cultural strategist, and the creator of Soulwork, a framework and philosophy for Black people, especially women, femmes, and MaGeS, to center wholeness, history, and liberation in our everyday lives.

I launched this newsletter as a promise to myself to stop shrinking.

To write with my whole chest.
To live with my full soul.
To be Black and brilliant and soft and stubborn all at the same time — in public.

You’ll find essays here about labor, lineage, wellness, art, anger, softness, and Black futurity. Sometimes I’m in my philosophical bag, sometimes I’m giving you auntie-on-the-porch advice. Sometimes I’m just telling you something precious about me. Either way, I’m always writing toward freedom.

The shorthand on me?

Black. Femme. NYC native.
ADHD. Chronic Pain. Eldest Daughter Energy.
Blessed with vision. Boundaried by necessity.

If you’re here, thank you.
If you stay, thank you deeper.
If you want to support this work, Buying Me A Book. You’ll be contributing to the continued evolution of this space. That’s soulwork, too.

With love and teeth,
Bethany

#softlife is not soulwork

I once wrote an entire essay about how I am “soft like pussy,” so please, don’t misunderstand my intentions when I say that I am not a #SoftLife girlie.

how to stop being depressed (this time)

It seems as though everyone I see is depressed.
